Our door is always open...
Because the first 72 hours are the most critical.
The first three days after leaving an abusive relationship can be among the most dangerous—and most important—for establishing safety and support.
Safety when it matters most.
At Nicky’s House provides immediate safety, secure placement, and critical resources for individuals experiencing domestic violence during the emergency separation period.
Our focus is the critical first 48–72 hours—the vulnerable period when an individual may need to separate from an unsafe situation immediately but may not yet have a safe place to go, transportation, essential belongings, financial resources, or a longer-term plan in place.
At Nicky’s House exists to help bridge that gap.
Immediate safety. Critical resources. A path forward.

At Nicky’s House helps victims of abuse navigate the critical first steps after leaving by connecting them with immediate support and trusted resources. We serve as a bridge to the organizations, services, and opportunities that can help them move forward.
Tell us what you need.
My name is Seatrice Nicole, but to my family, I’ve always been Nicky. Over the years, my house became a place people knew they could turn to. When a friend or family member was going through a difficult time or needed somewhere to stay, someone would say, “You can stay at Nicky’s house.” Opening my doors has always come naturally to me. Even today, when a property I own is available between uses, I sometimes offer it to someone who needs a temporary place to stay and a little time to get back on their feet.
But the heart of At Nicky’s House goes back nearly 30 years, to a night when my two children and I needed somewhere to go. I was experiencing domestic violence, and the police intervened to help us get out of a dangerous situation. Once we were out, though, we had nowhere to stay. At two o’clock in the morning, without money or resources, I wasn’t thinking about rebuilding my life. I was trying to figure out where my children and I could be safe until morning.
Miraculously, I was able to reach a friend whom ultimately paid for two nights at a hotel for us, and I have never forgotten that kindness. Those two nights gave us a safe place to rest and gave me time to breathe, collect my thoughts, and begin figuring out our next steps. What I didn’t fully understand then is that those few days of safety and separation may have helped save my life. The danger didn’t simply disappear because we had gotten out. Having somewhere to stay meant I didn’t have to go back because my children and I had nowhere else to go.
I’ve carried that experience with me ever since. When I thought about creating At Nicky’s House, I wanted to bring together something I’ve always done, opening my doors to people in need with something I understood personally: how much it matters to have somewhere safe to go in those first hours.
That is why At Nicky’s House exists. We help individuals and families experiencing domestic violence access safe, temporary placement and resources during the first 48–72 hours of emergency separation, while helping them connect with longer-term support. I know we can’t solve everything in a few days, but I know what those few days meant for me and my children. I want to be able to offer someone else that same kindness, that same breathing room, and the chance to figure out what comes next.
